Mediterranean Temperatures, Destinations and crowd avoidance
Temperatures
start to rise around April. As the table of gradual warmth is shown to ascent
below so do people begin to aggregate at the islands and antiquities and other
points of interest in Greece, Italy, Turkey and the Mediterranean. If you would like to escape
the masses you may follow the table below and if not ... go to your heart's
desire!
(In general ... keep to the
South when the temperature is low and go North when hot!) |

| Greek
Islands
and Destinations |
 |
The
body of water dotted with islands that occupies the north-eastern Mediterranean
basin is a Greek archipelago called the Aegean Sea that includes a group of
islands, the Cyclades
and the Dodecanese. Because of its shape and the number of islands, Greece
gives the impression of being smaller than its actual area (yeah, right -- like
you would bypass Greece in real life), let's head on out. |
Embarking on a Vacation to the
Mediterranean can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience (not to mention that you
need a vacation and so does your computer.;-))
 |
| Some of the most popular island destinations
...
The
Cyclades
are a diverse beautiful set of islands to begin your vacation or sailing and
almost always, yes, you can see land. The name of this group of Islands was
given by ancients because of arrangement in circle (cyclus) around sacred island
of Delos;
on the South Aegean. Vacationing or sailing the Cyclades
is wonderful and what is most evident immediately is the diversity of activities
on shore. You can spend hours happily on shore touring, hiking, shopping,
walking, and, above all eating. There are restaurants everywhere you go! The
food is delicious and inexpensive. The people will be giving you a wonderful
opportunity to chat in your best Greek sign language. The bottom line is that
every part of the trip will fascinate you on land, at sea and the weather
is reciprocal to good intentions.:-)
The
Dodecanese
(named after its 12 islands) are a Greek island group chiefly in s. e. Aegean
Sea, off Turkey. Island of the sun, the mountainous island of Rhodes
where the Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, once stood. Rhodes
lies in the Aegean Sea, 12 miles (19 kilometers) off the coast of Turkey and
belongs to Greece, the largest and easternmost of the Dodecanese.
Because of the fragmented nature of the
country, air transportation is particularly suitable for Greece linking the
sparkling array of Greek islands large and small. The main international airport
is in Athens,
which is well located as an intermediate stop for flights between Islands,
Europe and the Middle East.

Miles
away from Ordinary
There
are few countries where the meeting of land and sea creates such a complex
pattern of islands, inlets, gulfs and bays. The sea presses deep into the land
with hundreds of arms separated by the rocky spines of peninsulas, and only a
small, wedge-shaped portion is more than 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the sea.
The contrasts between the deep blue of sea and
sky, the white of limestone crags and whitewashed buildings, and the
burnt-orange of tiled roofs contribute dramatically to what strikes all visitors
a quality of light that is unique.
